Etobicoke West Mall Meeting

We had a wonderful meeting with several public and private groups in the Etobicoke West Mall area. Topics such as funding, construction impacts and timeline, and environmental benefits were covered by our Environmental Manager Heming Yip and Outreach Manager William Treseder.

One local volunteered to help organize a barbecue at a nearby park where the Fly By Rail team could meet with a wider variety of people in an informal setting to hear more about the community's unique culture and history. As soon as the time, date, and location are determined, we will be posting it to maximize public turnout.

Etobicoke York Community Council Meeting

Fly By Rail attended the November 2nd, 2011 meeting at the Etobicoke City Center - 399 The West Mall on the southeastern corner where it intersects with Burnhamthorpe. Mark Grimes, the Council Chair, presided over a meeting, introducing our Outreach Manager William Treseder to the crowd. William, along with Planning and Engineering Manager Leila Zheng, discussed various aspects of the project with interested citizens.

Several concerns were about up by both council members and the public. Most revolved around the project's funding streams, while some expressed doubts about the project environmental impact and economic benefits. Flyers were distributed and contact information was gathered as we build up our mailing list in preparation for the release of our first e-newsletter.

Getting Started

Fly By Rail is pleased to announce the next phase of our community engagement plan. We are working closely with groups across the Toronto-Greater Hamilton area at all levels, and are sensitive to the needs of different groups.

We are hosting dialogues, attending public publics, conducting telephone surveys, hosting neighborhood events, and using a variety on social media and other web-based tools to reach as many people as possible.

Any resident is encouraged to give us feedback about our proposals, whether it is positive or negative. Please provide contact information if you would like a response from someone on the Fly By Rail team, or feel free to post anonymously.
